I Can See More Now: An Advent Reflection

As fall has ended and we approach winter, I’ve noticed even the most stalwart leaves have finally fallen. Looking out my living room window, what was once hidden behind green, then red foliage has given way to a clear view of the Sound. My sight line has been transformed—I can see more now.

As I live into this Advent season, I find that thought echoing in my heart: I can see more now.

I’m sinking into the gift to the world of Jesus—a model of love I can lean into when I’m unsure how to respond, or when I’ve wandered off course and need to find center again.

What has helped me see more clearly? For me, I flood myself with Christmas music. I love carols that share the story, that make the gift of Love come alive. I believe that listening to and soaking up their beauty has opened my eyes to where God is moving in my world, and where I’m invited to be God’s heart in this world.

As you continue through Advent, I invite you to rest in the sacred music of this season. Let yourself be held by melodies that tell the story—not as background noise, but as companionship for your heart. I’ve found this playlist of Piano Christmas Music, created by a friend, to be a gentle space for contemplation. Perhaps it will help you see more, too.

Reflection Questions:

  • What has fallen away in your life this season, revealing a new view you couldn’t see before?

  • Where do you find yourself returning to center when you feel off course?

  • How might you “see more” of God’s presence in your daily life during this Advent season?

An Advent Prayer:

God of seeing and being seen,

As the world quiets into winter,

help me notice what has been revealed.

Open my eyes to the gift of Love you’ve given in Jesus—a model,

a center, a way home when I’ve wandered.

Teach me to see more clearly where you are moving,

and where you’re inviting me to be your heart in this world.

Amen.
